The capture occurred during an offensive behind enemy lines, where the soldiers of the 80th Brigade were tasked with eliminating adversary positions. During the operation, the troops identified a T-90M “Breakthrough” tank, which Russian soldiers attempted to start without success.
According to one of the soldiers involved, the Russians were unable to start the tank due to fully drained batteries. After taking control of the vehicle, the Ukrainians replaced the batteries and successfully started the tank, driving it to their own positions.
The captured tank was nicknamed “Pirozhok” by its new crew, who reported difficulties with the control system, which they described as heavy and complex, utilizing levers that pierce the hull.
This is not the first time Ukrainian soldiers have criticized the new Russian tanks, highlighting the low reliability of the onboard systems and fire control systems, even after recent modernizations.
According to analyst Oryx, more than 100 T-90M tanks have been destroyed or damaged based on publicly available photos and videos. This list includes vehicles captured by the Defense Forces and those abandoned by Russian crews on the battlefield, often without significant damage.
